He is the Secretary, AINET Association of English Teachers (AINET), and a former National President of English Language Teachers’ Association of India (ELTAI). With a professional career spanning 38 years, he has been a teacher, trainer, consultant, researcher and community leader. He pioneered ‘English Teachers Clubs’, teachers’ self-help groups promoting self-initiated professional development, in some rural towns of India. Currently he is exploring the history of ELT, teacher communities and networks, rural ELT and decentring in ELT. His key publications include Teachers’ Handbook on CPD, Continuing Professional Development: Lessons from India (both with Rod Bolitho), Teaching in Low Resource Classrooms: Voices of Experience (with Richard Smith and Deborah Bullock) and Research in ELE in Indian Universities: A Directory, besides two forthcoming (co-edited) volumes on EMI, equity and social justice in South Asia.
